<image:title>About - Osiyo! Here’s a little about me . . .</image:title>
<image:caption>Represented by Linda Camacho at Gallt & Zacker, I write children’s and adult fiction and nonfiction. I am also an essayist and poet. Click here to see my upcoming and published works. My most recent adventure is fulfilling my Masters in Food Studies at NYU Steinhardt. Through this program, I’ve begun two books steeped in food history and culture. Stay tuned for good things ahead on the adult non-fiction front! As an editor, I’ve had the pleasure of working in children’s book publishing since 2011, and today I head up the novels team at Lee & Low Books. Before working for Lee & Low, I had the opportunity to work as a consultant with many publishers (Macmillan, Scholastic, DC, Outland Entertainment, HarperCollins, and more), helping Indigenous voices and topics get more traction and respect in the industry. As a proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation, I continue to contribute my time and expertise to Indigenous authors and illustrators. For example, I edited the middle grade novel Indian No More (Tu Books), the first children’s book to highlight Native American history in the 1950s. I also contributed to the picture book Fry Bread (Roaring Brook Press), whose end pages feature the names of 665 Native communities within U.S. borders. I’ve also served as faculty and a lecturer within Indigenous-focused retreats.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Poetry, short stories, essays. Books: kid lit, adult lit. My mother always said, without writing I’d be VERY unhappy. Good thing pens are cheap.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Lifting Story, Lifting Voice</image:title>
<image:caption>There is a moment when a writer is sitting somewhere, walking down a street, looking out a window, lifting a child to their hip—a moment when an idea for a story arrives and says, “Please, put me down on paper.” If that idea and that paper and that voice make it through one test after another—a manuscript’s hero’s journey—and finally lands on my desk, what I hear is, “Please help me sing.”</image:caption>
